Accessibility Compliance Working Group - July 2025 Meeting
The Accessibility Compliance Working Group meets online monthly to discuss accessibility compliance issues, especially as it pertains to the DOJ deadline. These informal sessions will provide a space to share updates, ask questions, and learn from peers about practical approaches to accessibility compliance.

- Department of Revenue
- Concerned about the Regulations that they have to post
- The PDF files contain strikethrough and underline text
- these types of text cannot be made accessible
- what are other agencies doing and how can they be compliant?
- An attorney that they spoke with suggested password protected documents in Word as a possible solution.

- Running into hiccups when doing accessibility testing
- Some PDFs pass accessibility checks on one browser or reader, but will not pass on another
- Concerned about the Regulations that they have to post

- Concerned that the automatic fixes in AdobePro is not actually making PDFs accessible
- Is there any training/education that can be recommended around using these tools?
- They have legal documents that come from the courthouse that have to be scanned in
- These documents cannot be altered and must remain on the website for 5 years
- Mary suggested creating a page that includes a synopsis of the document, a link to download the document, and an accessibility point of contact if a user needs help with reading the document

- Are we supposed to be testing for accessibility? What software should we be using?
- One agency pointed out that JAWS is the most widely used screen reader among people that use assistive technologies, but it has a $1,000 licensing fee.

Action Items
- Mary is going to look into WCAG about strikethrough and talk to the Drupal development team to see if there is anything that we can do in the backend to make strikethrough text and underline text accessible.

- Compile a list of potential tools that could be utilized for the working group to test and report back on what works for them, what doesn’t work well, etc.

We'll go over to DOJ Final Rule, talking points that you can use for discussions with agency leadership, and discuss what most concerns you about the DOJ Final Rule and the things that you need most help with to get ready for the April 2026 deadline.
