What is Responsive Design?
Responsive Design is an alternate solution to create mobile friendly websites by automatically changing the layout of a website to fit the screen width of the device that is accessing it. Check out our Learning About Responsive Design Web Guide, GOVTalks: Mobile workshop videos, and The Mobile Moment blog to learn more.

Can I opt out of migrating my website to Responsive?
No. Our goal is to have all websites migrated to Responsive Design and available for mobile visitors by the end of our 6 month migration project. We will coordinate with you as needed, and send reminders along the way before we switch your website. Because we plan to sunset all of our non-responsive themes, all agencies will be switched to the Responsive theme by the end of the migration project. -
Can I reschedule the round my website is in?
If you need more time to make changes or the initial scheduled round does not work with your agency's schedule, you may request to reschedule your migration for a later round. This will be accepted on a case by case basis and up to the account manager's discretion. -
What if I don’t make the suggested content changes by the migration date?
Your website will still be migrated to the responsive theme by the migration deadline. Content changes are only suggestions and are not required to be finished before the migration. These changes can be made anytime after the switch, and are only suggested to optimize your mobile user's experience. -
How can I find out when my website will be migrating?
Contact your Portal Interactive account manager if you would like to know the round your website will be migrating. Additionally, account managers will be notifying each agency 4-6 weeks before their migration deadline. -
How did you determine the schedule for the migration?
We looked at the most recent mobile analytics for each of our agency's websites and determined which sites needed to be migrated first based on % of mobile traffic. We also considered high level agencies and agencies with multiple child sites to make the migration process easier and seamless for each agency. -
How long will I have to make my changes?
Your Portal Interactive account manager will notify you 4-6 weeks before the migration deadline. You will have this time to make any of the suggested content changes. -
Will my website look different?
Migrating your website to Responsive Design will not affect the look or the content of your website. Each theme will look exactly as it does now, and no content will be touched by the migration. This switch will only change the way your website's layout looks on a mobile and tablet device, creating a better user experience for your mobile traffic. Read more about migrating to Responsive Design to see the changes that will take place.

Will the new responsive theme affect the way I enter content?
The short answer is no. The platform will look and function the exact same way it does now, and there will be no new training required.
However, we have a new option for uploading images through our Structured Images feature, created for the responsive themes. You can find the training material for this in Making Your Content Mobile Friendly.
We are also encouraging agencies to think "mobile first" with their website content during and after the responsive migration. Read our mobile blog posts about the importance of a mobile friendly website, and what it means to create your content with a "mobile first" perspective.

Where can I see what the changes will look like?
Visit demo.georgia.gov and resize your browser screen to approximate tablet and mobile phone sizes. You will see the layout of the website move around, boxes stack on top of each other, and new "menu" and "search" buttons at the top right of the site. This design creates a better experience for mobile users depending on their screen size. Better yet, visit demo.georgia.gov on your personal phone and tablet to see the differences.
Remember, your theme will remain exactly the same as it is now and might not match the Patriotic theme of our demo.georgia.gov website. You can still see the differences with the layout in the mobile and tablet breakpoints.
