All Georgia State Agencies must meet WCAG 2.1, Level AA accessibility compliance by April 24, 2026, in accordance with the updated regulations for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Agencies are encouraged to review the official requirements and exceptions, directing any questions regarding ruling interpretation and application to their general counsel.

  • Focus on Key Content Types

    • Web content
    • Mobile applications
    • PDFs and other uploaded documents
    • Images, audio content, and videos

  • Use Plain, Clear Language

    Write in a way that’s easy for everyone to understand. Use tools like the Hemingway app to ensure content is no higher than an 8th-grade reading level.

  • Check Uploaded Documents for Accessibility

    Use tools to make sure PDFs and other document types contain elements like structure and tags, alternative text descriptions, selectable text, and sufficient contrast to be accessible to screen readers.

  • Check Images’ Alternative Text

    Confirm that image alt text describes the image meaningfully for people using screen readers.

  • Ensure Links Are Descriptive

    Include the purpose in link text, such as “Download the Annual Report.”

  • Caption Videos and Describe Audio

    Include captions for video and transcripts for audio content.
