Converting Your Webforms Into PDFs

It is finally here! After many hours of code magic, coffee drinking, and a tiny bit of sobbing, we have finally fulfilled your request of creating a Webform to a PDF feature on the platform!

The Webform to PDF feature converts individual Webform submissions to downloadable PDFs with just a few additional settings. In other words, it can be used to generate a PDF document from the results of a form. You can attach the generated PDF document to the form summary email or try downloading it from the Webform Results page. Different PDF templates can be set for each form. The templates can be formatted with HTML tags, and they can be edited with the WYSIWYG, making the template creation easy and the templates highly customizable.

So why would you need it? One example would be to collect registrations to an event. After submitting the form, your site could send an email confirmation and attach a PDF “ticket” with the registration information. You could also create custom file documents to adhere to legislation.

But not every webform needs to convert submissions to PDFs. If all you need to do is export a group of submissions for further evaluation, simply use our Webform Export feature to export all the results at once. You can also view, edit or delete individual submissions that have come into your system from the Results section within Drupal. In the webforms toolbar, mouse over Submissions to look at a comprehensive form analysis and view results in a table. And of course you can email individual results in the body of an email if a plain-text formatting of results gets the job done. These features are still all available as always.

The platform is able to accommodate most data needs — just pick your outlet.

All the instructions on using this new feature are available in the Advanced Drupal Training manual. If you need help customizing your PDF template for your Webform, please submit a ticket through our support system.

We cover Webforms in detail — including the new PDF feature — in our Advanced Drupal Training class. Keep an eye on the Events page for upcoming classes. Also be sure to check out my blog entry on Webforms to learn proper webform etiquette!
