Helping Safeguard Georgia’s Communities
The Georgia Sexual Offender Risk Review Board (SORRB) launched its new website on GovHub this month, offering an improved user experience with content that is better organized and accessible.
SORRB's mission is to assess and classify registered sex offenders, determining the likelihood they will re-offend, and ultimately protecting the public by identifying those who pose the greatest risk. Their website is the authoritative resource for understanding sex offender risk assessment in Georgia. It aims to inform the public about the classification process and helps to safeguard Georgians through leveling that can be used to adjust community supervision tactics and tailor treatment plans.
Greater Transparency
The website provides information about the SORRB process, including:
- Risk Classification that explains the three risk levels used by the SORRB to classify sex offenders, which can help the public understand how offenders are assessed and the potential risks they pose;
- Review Process that outlines how the Board reviews cases, including initial assessments, reclassifications, and the criteria used to determine risk levels; and
- Board Meetings where the public can view on YouTube and see firsthand the process in action.
User-Centric Organization
The homepage includes links to the most important content, and each landing page provides concise information tailored to the Board’s specific audiences. This streamlined approach prevents information overload and helps users focus on what's most relevant to them.
Content on the new site is organized based on the audience, making it easier for different users – the public, victims, and offenders – to find the information they need. This approach ensures that everyone can access relevant and understandable information quickly. This includes a new navigation menu, as well as landing pages that highlight audience-specific resources.
New resources are available on the site for victims, including how to submit victim impact statements for consideration by the Board. Content for offenders, such as links to treatment programs and re-entry services, is also new.
Easy-to-Consume Information
The website features newly formatted content with "How Do I" sections, breaking down complex processes into simple, actionable steps. The steps to request re-evaluations or future reviews are listed with the necessary forms and contacts included.
Previously, the Georgia Code that established SORRB, along with bylaws and procedures, were included on the site, written in legal language that is often hard to understand. That legal information is now simplified and referenced, but not spelled out on the site.
Biographies of Board members were added to help the public better understand the credentials and commitment of those serving.
By providing clear, accessible information about the sex offender risk assessment process, the SORRB empowers the public, supports victims, and offers resources to offenders. The new site ensures that this information is readily available and accessible for all audiences.
